Officer Profile: President

Leader, Passionate, Enthusiastic, Confident, Decision-Maker

If these words describe you then you should definitely consider standing to be the next President of Bradford College Students’ Union.

The President is the figure head of the organisation and therefore any big campaigns or projects will happen with the President being the leader of the pack. A natural born-leader is required for this role.

The main focus of the role is to represent the student body to the college at all the big meetings where the important decisions about the college and the student experience at Bradford College are decided upon. Meetings such as Corporation, Equality and Diversity Committee are key forums for the student voice to be heard and you have to be able to put your point across in an informed and articulate way.

When national and local Newspapers and TV channels are looking for someone to talk to from the Students’ Union on big national issues it will be the President who takes the lead and sets the agenda for all the students to follow.

There will also be an element of individual representation with students for issues such as academic appeals, disciplinary and academic procedures.

Officer Profile: Vice President: Education and Welfare

Compassionate, Good Listener, Organised, Leader, Decision-Maker

If these words describe you then you should definitely consider standing to be the next Vice President of Bradford College Students’ Union.

The main focus of this role is to co-ordinate the Course Rep system, ensuring that as many courses as possible have a representative and that they are engaging with the Students’ Union on a regular basis. This will involve sending out regular updates to Course Reps in the form of a Course Rep newsletter. It will also be your responsibility to organise and lead the Course Rep training along with Union staff.

It is also the responsibility of the Vice President to stand in for the President at every opportunity that the President is not available or away.

There is also an element of individual representation for things such as academic appeals, disciplinary and academic procedures. This will be of a higher volume than that of the President.

Do you think you can co-ordinate our most active groups of students: Course Reps?

Do you think you can step up to the mark when the President is away?

Do you have the patience and compassion to deal with student cases?

Officer Profile: Publicity Officer

Creative, Organised, Energetic, Visionary, Keen eye for detail

Does this sound like you? If so, you should definitely consider running for Publicity Officer.

The main focus of this role is to help co-ordinate The Student magazine. It will be your responsibility to get people interested in writing and contributing to the magazine in whatever way you want.

Any campaigns or student initiatives you will be expected to have your say on how it should be advertised and advise student groups on how to advertise themselves.

Do you want to be the Editor of The Student magazine?

Do you have that creative flare to say what will appeal to students and what won’t?

Do you have a keen eye for detail so that everything the Union publicises is of a professional standard?

Officer Profile: Clubs and Societies Officer

Organised, Active, Outgoing, Engaging, Enthusiastic

Does this sound like you? If so, you should definitely consider running for Clubs and Societies Officer.

The main focus of this role will be to inform possible clubs and societies of how to become fully registered societies and help them through the application process, but also to help organise things like fresher’s fair which is our key opportunity to engage with huge numbers of students. It will be your responsibility to advise the Union Executive and the Union Parliament of the Societies application process and future applications from student groups.

It is also the responsibility of this role to build links with the elite sports squads at Trinity Green.

Officer Profile: Women’s Officer

Sound like you? Then you should definitely consider running to be the next Women’s Officer!

The main focus of this role is to represent and campaign for female students rights. You will lead the NUS Women’s Campaign at Bradford College and encourage as many female students to join you in your efforts for a more equal and fair deal for female students. You will also lead a small team of female students to NUS Women’s Conference. Whether it be a female safety campaign or a campaign to end sexist remarks and sexual harassment at Bradford College you set the direction.

Officer Profile: LGBT Officer

Sound like you? Then you should definitely consider running to be the next LGBT Officer!

The main focus of this role will be to organise events and meetings for the LGBT community at Bradford College. It will also be your responsibility to ensure that LGBT students are represented in all college and Union decisions.

This role gives you the opportunity to build links with the national LGBT network and you will be offered various personal development and conference opportunities to support your efforts in running effective LGBT campaigns and initiatives.

Officer Profile: Disability Officer

Sound like you? Then you should definitely consider standing in the election to be the next Disability Officer!

The main focus of this role will be to make sure that the voice of disabled students is heard loud and clear within the Union, the college and the NUS. You will be the lead representative for disabled students at Bradford College and will attend meetings and conferences such as E-safety meetings and NUS Disabled students conference.

It will also be your role to campaign on issues around disability whilst also making sure that other campaigns are accessible to every student at the college. You will work closely with the NUS Disabled Students’ Campaign to further your own personal development and the campaigning development of Bradford College Students’ Union.

Officer Profile: International Officer

The main focus of this role will be to welcome new international students to Bradford College at the International Orientation talks and maintaining regular contact with them so that they are as informed as possible about the opportunities available at the Students’ Union.

You will organise events and meetings for International students to attend and engage with. This role will also work closely with the International Centre to engage with students and you will have a section in the International Centre Newsletter to inform students what’s on and how to get involved.

Officer Profile: BME Officer (Black, Minority and Ethnic Officer)

Passionate, Organised, Enthusiastic, Activist, Committed

Sound like you? Then you should definitely consider standing to be the next BME Officer.

The main focus of this role is most definitely Black History Month and organising campaigning activity around that. You will have the chance to work with other charities and build links both locally and nationally.

You will attend the NUS Summer and Winter Black Students Conferences and build strong links with other Students’ Unions in the process. You will also be the lead representative for BME students at Bradford College and will be expected to run campaigns around issues relating to this group of students.

Do you have ideas of what activities and events could mark Black History Month?

Do you want the opportunity to meet other officers from other Unions who share the same passion as you?

Can you enthuse students to get involved in campaigning activity in the Students’ Union?

 

Officer Profile: Mature Students Officer

Passionate, Compassionate, Committed, Organised, Determined

Sound like you? Then you should definitely consider standing for Mature Students Officer!

The main focus of this role will be to represent mature students at every level: Union, College and NUS. You will ensure that every activity, campaign and event is accessible and relevant to mature students.

You will organise for times to meet with mature students to discuss their student experience at Bradford College and how to improve it.

You will attend relevant conferences to discuss ways of engaging more mature students in Student Union activity and bring that experience and expertise back to Bradford College Students’ Union to support our campaigning and representation activity.

Are you passionate about the issues affecting mature students?

Can you enthuse others to follow your lead in getting a good deal for mature students?

    How “significantly reduced” are we talking? 50p? £1? £3?

    One might think it extortionate like the current system if it’s not reduced by much – especially to the majority of we students who are (incessantly) skint!
